A brewery producing a unique brand of craft beer that takes its name from Kansai Airport's three-letter code opened in July in Izumisano, Osaka Prefecture. Three types of beer are regularly sold: a citrus-flavored pale ale with a moderately bitter taste, an amber ale that boasts a coffee-like aroma and light taste and a Weizen that lacks any bitterness and has a banana-like fragrance. Other limited-edition flavors are also in the works. In honor of its namesake, there is an illustration of an airplane on the bottle.
Kyoto-based event organizing company Grande Limite established the brewery dubbed Izumisano Brewing, which opened its doors last month, investing about 150 million yen for the installation of equipment including brewing tanks.
"I'd like to get the word out about Izumisano's original beer," Izumisano Mayor Hiroyasu Chiyomatsu said in his opening remarks at the brewery's debut event on July 13.
The city government began offering the beer as a return gift under the furusato nozei system -- a tax-deductible donation program -- on Aug. 18.
As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, the number of Japan's foreign visitors has seen a sharp decrease, and the brewery's pub is now closed. "In the future, we hope to capture the demand of Asian visitors to Japan and make them want to stay in the city longer," said the company's president.
Each 330-milliliter bottle costs 500 yen without tax.
