People making “unreasonable noise” in two neighbouring areas of Leeds could have their equipment seized, thanks to new measures to tackle illegal lockdown parties and anti-social behaviour.
Extra officers from West Yorkshire Police and the Leeds Anti-Social Behaviour Team (LASBT) will be on patrol in Hyde Park and Headingley this weekend (15-16 August).
The teams have the power to confiscate any equipment making noise including laptops and televisions. They can also issue fines, while reprimands could even result in criminal records or sanctions.
Councillors from the area, Al Garthwaite, Jonathan Pryor & Neil Walshaw, said the decision has not been “done lightly”.
In a statement posted online, they said: “Headingley & Hyde Park is a diverse area with a lot of families and young children living here too.
“This is not something done lightly but has been necessary due to an uptick in some people being inconsiderate of their neighbours all through the night.
“These teams (officers and the LASBT) will be able to confiscate any equipment making unreasonable noise, including TVs and Laptops, issue fines, or even result in a criminal record or sanctions from university depending on whether any perpetrator is a student or not.
“Please be considerate of your neighbours, and if you are facing any trouble, please call our out-of-hours noise nuisance number 0113 376 0337.”
