Crack cocaine, knives and stolen steaks seized in month of violent crime crackdown

Weapons, crack cocaine, heroin and even hauls of meat were some of the seizures after a month-long crackdown on serious and violent crime.

Police in Birkenhead have launched Operation Clear in the town to focus on problems which are blighting the community.

It has led to numerous arrests for offences including possession of weapons, Class A drug dealing, aggravated burglary, vehicle crime and theft.

Updates throughout June has seen patrols stepped up around Birkenhead with one man stopped and found with drugs, along with beef fillet steaks, which were stolen.

A search of three men on Henry Street, in the town centre, led to the discovery of cannabis and the driver of a white van had no sign of a licence or insurance, so the vehicle was seized.

A scour of a different vehicle on Derby Road showed up a quantity of cannabis and the driver then failed a roadside drugs swipe, which could lead to disqualification.

One warrant executed at a home on Harrowby Road saw the door being smashed off its hinges as officers hurried inside.

On the same road, but in a nearby alleyway, a man was found with a bag of crack cocaine while, days earlier, a wanted woman was located for aggravated burglary and thefts from motor vehicles.

She also had a locking knife.

On one particular night, officers turned their attention to drug dealers and arrested a man for supplying crack cocaine and heroin.

A search of his flat revealed more of the same two drugs, along with cannabis.

On Derby Road, Tranmere, a man was searched and found with an extendable baton and a large quantity of LSD and cannabis.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "As part of Operation Clear we are seeking intelligence from the community to assist in obtaining search warrants in Central Birkenhead to target serious violent offenders.
