CPS substitute teacher accused of sending explicit texts to 14-year-old girl

Feb. 15--A Chicago Public Schools substitute teacher has been charged with indecent solicitation of a 14-year-old student.

Aaron Williams-Banks, 28, who appeared in bond court Saturday, has been accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to the student and soliciting her for sex, according to court records. Williams-Banks was a substitute teacher at William A. Black Magnet School, 9101 S. Euclid Ave., according to court records and confirmed by a CPS spokesman.

"He requested to have sex with the victim ... arranging a date," Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Akash Vyas said in court Saturday.

Williams-Banks began flirting with the student and sending text messages to her after teaching her math class last month, Vyas said.

Another teacher overheard other students talking about the relationship and notified CPS investigators, who linked the text conversations to Williams-Banks and the student, Vyas said.

Police were notified of the possibility of an inappropriate relationship between Williams-Banks and the student on Jan. 30 and arrested Williams-Banks at his home in the 7400 block of South Euclid Avenue about 6:35 p.m., police said.

Williams-Banks' lawyer could not immediately be reached. Williams-Banks' LinkedIn page lists him as a math tutor for Chicago Public Schools since March 2014.

Williams-Banks was charged with indecent solicitation of a child with the intention of predatory aggravated sexual assault, according to Chicago police.

Judge Laura Sullivan ordered Williams-Banks held in lieu of $50,000 Saturday, with electronic monitoring ordered if he is able to post the required $5,000.
