- The government has announced an additional £5 million in funding over two years for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to enhance support for domestic abuse victims.
- The funding aims to help victims navigate the court process and prevent them from withdrawing from legal proceedings.
- The new initiative will enable victims to meet with prosecutors ahead of Crown Court trials and will increase the number of dedicated domestic abuse victim liaison officers.
- Pilot programmes for these changes are set to be rolled out in three regions: Yorkshire and Humber, Merseyside and Cheshire, and a combined area covering Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset, and the Isle of Wight.
- Solicitor General Ellie Reeves said that the changes will ensure victims' voices are heard, extending support similar to that already available for victims of rape and serious sexual assault.
