PHOENIX _ Joel Quenneville took an out-with-the-new, in-with-the-old approach to his lines for Monday's game against the Coyotes.
But the result was the same old, same old for the Blackhawks, who fell 6-1 to the worst team in the NHL at Gila River Arena. It was the sixth loss in a row for the Hawks, who haven't fallen in succession that many times since dropping nine in a row in 2011-12.
Back on the top line for the Blackhawks was Brandon Saad, who has had a stop on every line recently to try to rid him of the struggles that prompted the moves in the first place. Saad had one assist and no goals in his previous 14 games going into Monday. Five weeks had passed since he last scored a goal, Jan. 7 against the Oilers.
Those numbers all increased Monday.
Rookie Alex DeBrincat, who had five goals and an assist in his last seven games, was moved to the third line with Tommy Wingels and Lance Bouma.
DeBrincat scored the Hawks' first _ and only _ goal, his 20th of the season, on a power play during the second period.
The Blackhawks weren't any better in goal.
After Anton Forsberg allowed Alex Goligoski's shot from the side wall to slip undetected between his legs for the Coyotes' third goal in 13 shots, he was pulled in favor of Jeff Glass. Max Domi beat Forsberg 1 minute, 32 seconds into the game for a 1-0 lead. After Jordan Oesterle's turnover behind the net, Clayton Keller made it 2-0 a little more than eight minutes later.
Glass almost immediately allowed another clunker, this one to Tobias Rieder, to make it 4-1.
The Hawks have scored two or fewer goals in eight of their last 10 games. The Coyotes had allowed at least four goals in four of their last five.
