Cows seen wandering the streets of village after escaping from farm

The residents of Poynton woke up to this unusual sight on Tuesday morning.

A herd of cows were seen wandering the streets of the Cheshire village after they escaped from a farm.

The cattle were spotted in the area of the Bird Estate and shocked locals posted images of the beasts on social media sites.

There were around seven cows seen at the end of Lostock Hall Road.

They could be seen next to parked cars and nearby houses in the middle of the street.

It is understood the herd escaped after a dog walker or hiker left the farm gate open.

They have since returned safely to the farm.

The incident has prompted warnings to walkers to make sure they close gates behind them to prevent farm animals from escaping.
