Cowdenbeath v Hearts: Pick your team for Betfred Cup Group A clash at New Bayview

There are likely to be changes to Robbie Neilson’s team that travels to play Cowdenbeath.

Hearts head to New Bayview to take on the Blue Brazil in their Betfred Cup Group A encounter.

The match was originally meant to be played at Central Park, but heavy rain in Fife earlier in the leak meant the Main Stand sprung a leak and put the stadium out of commission.

The visitors will be expected to leave with all three points regardless after getting off to a winning start against Inverness CT at Tynecastle on Tuesday.

With Raith Rovers in Gorgie next week ahead of the Championship season opener against Dundee a week today, Neilson is likely to mix it up to try and keep as much of his squad fresh as possible.

Therefore, those who were on the bench against Inverness could see themselves in from the start tomorrow.

Elliott Frear didn’t feature at all, while Jordan Roberts was a second half arrival, so both will be candidates for the starting XI.

New signing Stephen Kingsley was handed a 15 minute debut off the bench and may get his first start in maroon.

Neilson’s hands are tied in the other defensive positions though. Christophe Berra’s injury meansCraig Halkett and Mihail Popescu have to play, while Michael Smith is still on international duty with Northern Ireland, meaning Jamie Brandon should keep his place.

Andy Halliday is another who could be drafted in, although care will continue to be taken with Peter Haring after so long out.

Craig Gordon produced a wonder stop to keep the scores at 0-0, although Neilson may be tempted to keep him in and give back up ‘keeper Ross Stewart the gloves on Tuesday to eliminate any risk of Gordon missing the Dundee game.
