Cowboys: Will Jason Garrett be fired on Tuesday?

Cowboys fans are calling for the Jason Garrett era to finally come to an end after the team blew its chance to make the playoffs by winning the NFC East this season, but owner Jerry Jones apparently isn’t ready to make his decision on Garrett’s future. Here’s everything we know about the Jason Garrett situation in Dallas.

Garrett met with Jones on Monday, and many fans expected confirmation that Garrett was out in Dallas. Instead, it was reported that no announcements would be made on Monday, and Garrett took the opportunity to thank his players in a meeting. According to NFL Network’s Jane Slater, Garrett met with coaches on expiring deals and told them they could explore their options with other teams, but no one was officially fired.

According to a report from ESPN, Garrett will meet with Jones again on Tuesday, and it’s possible that Jones will have reached a decision. Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that the Cowboys are expected to move on from Garrett, but that the team was still figuring out how it would handle his departure.

Garrett’s contract with the Cowboys expires on January 14th, but with coaching candidates being taken off the board by other teams, it could be dangerous for the Cowboys to wait until then if Jones hoped to avoid officially firing Garrett.
