Cowboys’ DeMarcus Lawrence looking to ‘humble’ Carson Wentz after record contract

DeMarcus Lawrence is a talented player, but the Cowboys pass rusher isn’t a quarterback and the contracts for signal callers are a little different at the top of the food chain. The Cowboys signed the star defensive end to a five-year, $105 million contract extension with $65 million in guarantees.

It’s a lot of money but seems small after the Philadelphia Eagles broke the bank for Carson Wentz, signing the star passer to a record four-year deal worth $128 million over four years, with a max value of $144 million. There is $107 million-plus guaranteed in the deal. The guarantees may have caused Lawrence some discomfort, because he fired this salvo on Twitter moments after Wentz’s deal was announced.

Lane Johnson isn’t going to be happy when he sees this and for Wentz part, Lawrence has zero sacks in nine career games against the Eagles. The Cowboys have recorded two straight wins over the Eagles. Lawrence could have been talking about all the rich quarterbacks in the league with Russell Wilson, Matt Ryan and Drew Brees all on his schedule.
