Cowboys’ star Micah Parsons has message for Commanders’ players about Dan Quinn

Dallas Cowboys star linebacker Micah Parsons is a massive fan of new Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn.

Parsons’ first NFL season came in 2021, which happened to be Quinn’s first season in Dallas. Quinn immediately knew how to employ Parsons best, and in three NFL seasons, Parsons has had 40.5 sacks. During his time at Penn State, Parsons had 6.5 sacks.

When Dallas was preparing to face Green Bay in the NFC wild-card round last month, Parsons was asked about the possibility of Quinn taking a head coaching job.

“Dan’s my guy,” Parsons said last month via NFL.com. “And if he do leave me, it’s always love. He might take me with him, you never know.”

Parsons was joking of course, but that led his former Penn State teammate — current Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson — to joke about Parsons joining him in Washington.

The Commanders officially announced Quinn’s hiring on Saturday while Parsons was in Florida at the Pro Bowl Games.

Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network caught up with Parsons to ask him about Quinn leaving.

“Super happy for him, not because he went to a rival, just because, like I said, Q is like a big uncle to me,” Parsons said of Quinn. “I know how much this means for him, and I know the stuff he wanted to take. He stayed with me as long as he could, but I know any team out there is lucky to have him.”

What advice does he have for Washington’s players?

“They’re getting a real upstanding, outstanding guy, man,” Parsons said. “I hope those players buy-in and play extremely hard for him and understand that ain’t no one going to love them and care more about them than Dan Quinn. So man, please appreciate his presence, appreciate his greatness, and take care of my guy.”

You won’t find a better endorsement for a coach like Parsons gave for Quinn.

While we know Parsons can’t come to Washington with Quinn, but it will be up to Quinn and GM Adam Peters to find their version of Parsons. Easier said than done.
