For the second day in a row the Dallas Cowboys watched as their top targets were snatched up in front of them.
However, Dallas still had plenty of options and were able to address a pressing need, selecting Kentucky cornerback Kelvin Joseph at No. 44.
Cowboys legend and soon-to-be Hall of Famer Drew Pearson announced Dallas’ selection.
The 5-foot-11, 197-pound corner had four interceptions and five pass deflections in just nine games last season — he opted out of the final two.
Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Joseph was one of the top defensive back prospects for the Class of 2018 at Scotlandville Magnet High School.
At Scotlandvile, Joseph scored a combined 13 touchdowns on returns — kickoffs, punts, and interceptions.
He demonstrated those return skills at Kentucky, taking an interception against Tennessee 41 yards to the house in 2020.
Joseph has speed to burn. At his pro dat at Kentucky, he ran a 4.34 40-yard dash.
This is the second consecutive year the Cowboys have drafted a cornerback in the second round. Last year Dallas selected Trevon Diggs with the 51st overall pick.
