Cowboys rookie RB Elliott accused of domestic abuse

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has been accused of domestic abuse in Columbus, Ohio, although he denied those allegations to police on Friday.

Elliott was not arrested or charged and the case has been referred to the prosecutor's office. A police spokesman described it as a "he said, she said" case.

The Dallas Cowboys declined comment on the situation.

However, Elliott's father, Stacy Elliott, released a statement Friday afternoon.

"The reported allegations and internet postings regarding our son are completely false. Ezekiel has done nothing wrong. The police have investigated this matter and eyewitnesses have verified the lack of any wrongdoing. The actual evidence in this matter clearly indicates what the real motivation was behind the police being called. We are confident that when the truth comes to light it will reveal the falsity of these claims. Ezekiel has been fully cooperative with the police and will continue to do so _ along with cooperating with the NFL _ moving forward."

The team believes the allegations are suspect and that Elliott had been trying to end a relationship, according to a source.

The woman, Tiffany Thompson, posted photos on her Instagram account Friday showing bruises that she claims are the result of domestic abuse.

Elliott denied those allegations to police, saying the bruises were a result of a bar fight Thompson had been in.

In a police report obtained by the Star-Telegram, it states that Elliott and Thompson were boyfriend/girlfriend.

Two police reports alleging domestic abuse were filed. In one of the police reports, four witnesses state they did not see Elliott assault Thompson at any point.

An NFL spokesman said the league will look into this incident to see whether Elliott violated the league's personal conduct policy. If it determines he did, he could be subject to a suspension.

Elliott starred on the Ohio State football team and the Cowboys made him the fourth overall pick in this year's draft. He is expected to become a featured player in the offense.
