FRISCO, Texas _ Tony Romo won't be in the starting lineup when the Cowboys host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, but the veteran quarterback was throwing at practice Wednesday for the first time since late August.
Romo, who was not in uniform, threw passes to scouting department assistant Miles Austin while the team stretched. He then participated in some of the individual throwing, working in behind rookie Dak Prescott and backup Mark Sanchez.
Romo was moving around well, making throws on the run and showing good velocity on throws of 25-30 yards.
When asked Wednesday morning about Romo returning to practice this week, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said: "We'll just take it day by day. He's had some good days of rehab lately."
Romo suffered a compression fracture of the L1 vertebrae in Dallas' third preseason game on Aug. 25.
The Cowboys have gone 5-1 with Prescott leading the team in Romo's absence.
