Cowboys’ Robert Quinn suspended, will miss Week 1 vs. Giants

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Robert Quinn underwent surgery this week to repair two fractures in his hand, but both he and the team felt confident he would have enough time to make it back for Week 1 against the New York Giants.

That will no longer matter.

The NFL announced on Thursday that Quinn had been suspended two games, which includes the team’s opener against the Giants in Dallas, for violating their policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Following the league’s announcement, Quinn’s agent, Sean Kiernan, released a statement expressing disappointment in the NFL for a “tone deaf” suspension, claiming the defensive end had failed the league’s drug test as the result of doctor-prescribed anti-seizure medication.

Fair or unfair, the NFL has a strict zero tolerance policy when it comes to performance-enhancing drugs, which is evident to the Giants and wide receiver Golden Tate, who has been suspended four game (pending appeal) for undergoing, as he claims, fertility treatments.

Quinn had been signed by the Cowboys to replace fellow defensive end Randy Gregory, who has also been suspended by the league.
