Cowboys reportedly ward off Redskins, sign Amari Cooper to $100 million deal

The Dallas Cowboys went and got their man on Monday night, agreeing to sign Amari Cooper to a five-year, $100 million contract, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Cowboys had restructured the deals of running back Ezequiel Elliot and tackle La’El Collins to free up cap space earlier on Monday, and we now know (at least partly) why they went and freed up that space — to pay Cooper.

Up next for the Cowboys, presumably, is to try and ink quarterback Dak Prescott to an extension. They’ll hope the signing of Cooper, who had 1,189 receiving yards and eight TDs in 2019, will help convince Prescott that he should stay in Dallas. (Money will probably do more to convince him, but Cooper won’t hurt, you’d imagine.)

Schefter also had a fun nugget about the Cooper deal — division rivals Washington were also in on the action.

Washington fans online at least congratulated themselves on driving the price up, which, silver linings! Sure!

All in all, a fun bit of news for late on Monday night.
