Cowboys looking for consistency: Morgan

Captain Michael Morgan says North Queensland have time on their side to revive their 2021 fortunes. (AAP)

North Queensland skipper Michael Morgan has endured the toils of expectation and slow starts before, and he's confident some consistency can turn his side's NRL fortunes around.

The Cowboys have started slowly, losing their opening two games off the back of error-filled displays, leaving both players and coaching staff frustrated.

As club captain, Morgan sees his team's frustrations first-hand but says he's not worried just yet.

"We lost the first three in 2015, and got tailed by the Broncos in round three - that was when everyone was talking about how good we are," he said.

"People didn't have high expectations of us coming into this season, but internally we have expectations on ourselves.

"It's not enjoyable losing, but it's two games and we've got plenty of time to turn it around and I still think we can."

Opinions around the league have expressed potential early-season shifts of the Cowboys spine, with Cowboys coach Todd Payten choosing to play his best 17, rather than players in their preferred positions.

Valentine Holmes' preferred spot is at fullback, and he's made that publicly known, with current custodian Scott Drinkwater saying he enjoys the halves more.

When Morgan was asked about a potential swap, he said he backed his coach and it's better to stick it out give players time to gel.

"I do because we haven't been consistent and doing what we want to do," Morgan said.

"The sooner we can get into doing what we want to do, that will relieve pressure, if you want to call it pressure, off everyone.

"It wasn't going to change overnight, the things that we wanted to change it would be nice if it did, but the reality is it rarely happens.

"You have a couple of wins and things start looking a lot better and that pressure valve releases a bit, so look, as the team is at the moment, yeah I'm good with it."
