Cowboys' Elliott shrugs off injuries: 'This is the best Wednesday practice I've had'

FRISCO, Texas _ Despite dealing with a sore ankle and knee bursitis, Ezekiel Elliott said he was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.

Elliott looked like his normal self, moving well in individual drills during the portion of Wednesday's practice open to reporters.

"Honestly, this is the best Wednesday practice I've had," Elliott said. "It's the freshest I've felt any Wednesday. I did a good job coming in and making sure I got my treatment so I was ready to go today."

So everything is fine?

"There's no time in the NFL or any football season that you're not sore," he responded, before adding: "I'm good."

Elliott carried 25 times for 152 yards and caught four passes for 88 yards and a touchdown Sunday against Detroit. After the game, the Cowboys' star running back acknowledged that he was banged up.

"I was banged up, but it's football," Elliott said Wednesday. "That's what it is. I'm young and I got fresh legs. I'm going to get the ball as much as I can."

Elliott's role is unlikely to change because of his ankle and knee issues. He has never missed a game because of injury since the Cowboys drafted him in 2016. He's expected to play Sunday night in Houston and get a similar workload.

"I love it," he said. "That's why I was picked No. 4 overall. They believed in what I was able to do. I got to thank this staff, I got to thank my teammates and my coaches just for believing in me and just having that faith in me, letting me go out there and do it and helping me do it."

Didn't he have the same role in high school and college?

Elliott: "That's how it's supposed to be."
