Cowboys’ DeMarcus Lawrence: Daniel Jones is another Eli Manning

Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who has registered just 3.5 sacks at the midway point of the season, has made a habit out of trash-talking New York Giants veteran quarterback Eli Manning. However, with Manning now riding pine, Lawrence had to set his sights on rookie Daniel Jones entering Week 9.

How will that adjust Lawrence’s smack talk? It won’t, he says, because all the Giants have in Jones is another Eli.

After all the shots Lawrence has taken at Eli over the years, you would think he meant that in a negative way, but in a rare moment of honesty, the veteran defensive end dropped his usual shtick and actually paid Manning a heck of a compliment.

While the hat-tipping may be short-lived, it’s respectable to see Lawrence taking the high road and not kicking Manning while he’s down. It’s even more surprising to see him suggest that Eli is probably headed to the Hall of Fame when so many confused haters are adamant that the two-time Super Bowl MVP doesn’t belong.

As far as Jones, he’d better buckle and prepare for Lawrence’s slights. They are coming en masse and will continue for years.
