Suspended Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory is still facing an additional 10-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
The NFL mentioned Gregory's initial four-game suspension on a personal notice sent around the league Saturday night.
But that was only to make the violation from February official at the start of the season.
A subsequent violation of the substance policy Gregory was reported in July. It has been appealed by Gregory's agent Deryk Gilmore.
Per a source, the league has yet to respond to the appeal.
In addition to the Star-Telegram, ESPN and the NFL Network also confirmed the initial that the Gregory won his appeal and was only going to be suspended for four games.
Regardless, Gregory's status with the Cowboys remains unclear.
The former 2015 second-round pick was placed on the reserve/did not report list before training camp.
He is still in a substance abuse treatment facility, per a source.
Gregory has failed four tests since February 2015. The first one was at the NFL Scouting Combine, which landed him in the substance abuse program. A second failed test resulted in a two-game fine. A third one resulted in a four-game fine and the fourth one left him with a four-suspension.
Per source, Gregory ran afoul of the program a fifth time, thus triggering an additional 10-game suspension.
Per an NFL spokesman, the league would have no further comment on Gregory beyond what was announced on Feb. 19 when the four-game suspension was revealed.
There is a thought process that Gregory might not play at all in 2016 if he had received a 10-game suspension tacked on to the initial four-game ban.
If it stays at four, he will have a chance to get back on the field at some point this season if he is able to get himself together off the field.
There is little chance he will be able to play after four games considering he missed all of training camp and the preseason and is still in rehab.
He is still out of shape and out of sorts.
But the Cowboys have not given up on Gregory, considering that Gregory has a locker at the team's new headquarters, the Ford Center at the Star in Frisco, Texas.
Linebacker Rolando McClain, who has been suspended for first 10 games of the season and is also on the reserve/did not report list, does not have a locker at the new facility.
He is not expected to play at all this season.
