North Queensland fullback Valentine Holmes will be sidelined for up to a month after suffering a shoulder injury in Queensland's State of Origin III win on Wednesday.
The Cowboys star was substituted at half-time after coming down awkwardly on his shoulder just before the break.
Scans on Thursday revealed a grade-three AC joint injury.
The club says he will not require surgery and will begin rehab in the coming days.
Holmes' injury is a massive blow for the 12th-placed Cowboys, who are on a four-game losing streak and in real danger of missing the finals.
