Police have released a photograph of a pair of cowboy boots found near to a human skeleton as part of an investigation into the man's identity.
A site worker at a scrapyard in St Osyth, Essex, found the human remains on April 25.
Officers believe that the remains, which also had a full set of dentures, belonged to a man over the age of 55.
Tests have been carried out on the skeleton to help identify the man but have proved unsuccessful.
Pictures of the distinctive leather style cowboy boots that were found alongside the bones have been released in the hope members of the public may be able to help police with their investigation, Essex Live report.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Truss said: “The man’s death continues to be treated as unexplained as no cause of death has currently been established.
“It is hoped that, by identifying him, we may be able to establish the last known movements of the man, leading up to his death.”
Police are awaiting further test results.
The site was being cleared of piles of metal ahead of a proposed development when the skeleton was found.
