A live-action adaptation of the classic anime series Cowboy Bebop is in the works at Netflix.
Frequently cited as one of the greatest anime series of all time, the show originally ran on Japanese TV from 1997 to 1998. It follows the adventures of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine, and Radical Ed, a rag-crew crew of bounty hunters on the hunt for the solar system's most dangerous criminals.
Variety reports that the series, developed by Tomorrow Studios, has been in the works since last year. The series will consist of 10 episodes.
Shinichiro Watanabe, who directed the original anime, will serve as a consultant on the project.
Cowboy Bebop was a huge critical and commercial success in Japan, winning several prestigious awards, before also finding a significant audience in the United States in the 2000s.
The new series follows Netflix's own live-action adaptation of the manga Death Note, starring Nat Wolff, Lakeith Stanfield, and Margaret Qualley. It was also announced that a live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender was also in the works.
