Cowboy Bebop Netflix release date and first images from the live-action series revealed

After long delays and much anticipation, Netflix has announced that live-action adaptation of the influential and classic anime series Cowboy Bebop is on its way.

Three years after it was first announced, the live-action series finally wrapped up production in March of this year.

The series is helmed by André Nemec, best known for his work as writer and producer on sci-fi TV series Alias and Zoo, as well as the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

The director of the original anime series, Shinichirō Watanabe, is a consultant for the new show, with the composer of the anime’s score Yoko Kanno also returning.

Who is in the Cowboy Bebop live action cast?

Actor John Cho of Star Trek and Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle fame has been revealed as the series lead character, the suave Spike Spiegel, with the first look showcasing him in Spiegel’s iconic purple suit.

The series also stars Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom) as Faye Valentine , and Mustafa Shakir (Luke Cage) portraying Jet Black, as well as Alex Hassell ( Suburbicon ), among others.

When is the Cowboy Bebop Netflix release date?

The streaming service dropped the first images from the show, which is set to premiere on Friday, November 19.

The series was delayed not only due to the pandemic but also due to Cho’s on-set injury that required him to fly from the show's New Zealand shooting location to Los Angeles for surgery.

When did the original Cowboy Bebop series come out?

Cowboy Bebop, a space western anime revolving around a group of bounty hunters on a spaceship called the Bebop, originally premiered in 1998.

Set in a future where humanity colonized surrounding moons and planets after earth became uninhabitable, the 26-episode series and 2001 movie follow a trio of bounty hunters Spike, Jet, and Faye,aboard the Bebop ship as they hunt down the solar system's most dangerous criminals for the right price.

Known for its striking visuals and theme – which images indicate the live-action series has tried to emulate- the anime drew critical acclaim and became a cult hit.
