Coway’s air purifier is surprisingly powerful for its affordable price

This handles larger rooms than other budget devices - (The Independent)

Hay fever season is underway and if you find yourself battling with allergies at home, an air purifier might be the answer. Now a mainstay in many homes, air purifiers work by removing airborne allergens such as dust mites, mould spores and pet hair.

While some models cost in the region of £300, our air quality expert, Joanne Lewsley, reviewed the Coway airmega 50 in her guide to the best air purifiers and found it to be the best budget option. At less than £60, it’s perfect for most homes.

“If you're looking for a quiet, compact air purifier on a budget, the Coway airmega 50 air purifier is hard to beat,” concluded Joanne after testing the model. Here’s her full review, including details on where to buy.

Ticking the boxes across purifying ability, noise levels and compact size, the Coway airmega 50 air purifier wowed our tester, who awarded it four stars (out of five) and found it to be the best budget air purifier.

A quality that stood out to Joanne was the real-time air quality indicator, “which uses a coloured light to show how clean the air is (blue indicates good, green for moderate, amber for bad and pink for very bad). It’s a small touch, but one that gives instant reassurance.”

On top of that, it features a smart sensor that adjusts the fan speed depending on air quality and has a built-in nightlight, which is “ideal for relaxing bedtime routines or little ones scared of the dark”.

As the filter lasts eight months, and the unit itself uses very little power, the model is energy-efficient, so you can have some peace of mind when running it for extended periods. Plus, it costs less than £80. A must-have this summer and beyond.
