Cow & Gate recalls jars of baby food after pieces of rubber found inside

Baby food specialist Cow & Gate has recalled a batch of food because some of the products contain pieces of a rubber glove.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said jars of Cheesy Broccoli Bake (10+ months) could contain small bits of blue rubber that would make the product unsafe to eat.

The items which have been removed from supermarkets are 250g jars with a batch code of 28122020 and a best before date of 28 December 2020.

They were on sale at most retailers including Asda, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Tesco and Boots.

A new baby and children's clothes shop is opening in Shawlands

The FSA said: “If you have bought the above product do not feed it to your baby. Instead, return it to the store where it was bought, with or without a receipt, for a full refund.”

Cow & Gate said the affected jars did not pose a health risk.

A statement adds: "We are sorry that these jars do not meet our usual high quality standards and for any inconvenience this recall may cause.

"These jars do not pose a health risk, but we are recalling them as they do not meet our usual high quality standards."

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling the product.

Those who need more information can call Cow & Gate’s careline at any time on 0800 977 4000 or speak via live chat.
