Cow & Gate and Aptamil baby muesli products choking alert after being 'rereleased in error'

Two muesli products for babies have been recalled because they contain apple stalks which could choke infants.

Food company Nutricia has withdrawn Cow & Gate and Aptamil muesli products as some packs have been found to contain pieces of apple stalks, an alert on the Food Standards Agency website said.

"The presence of the apple stalks presents a choking hazard to babies making these products unsafe to eat," said the bulletin.

The alert went on that it had previously issued a warning about the same products on January 15 but they had now been 'rereleased in error'.

The notice described what action Nutricia was taking: " Nutricia is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products.

"These notices explain to customers why these products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought these products."

Any customers who purchased the items were warned: "Do no feed them to your baby."

The alert went on: " Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought, with or without a receipt, for a full refund.
