Cow dies after collision with vehicle on A38

A cow died after a collision with a vehicle on a busy East Midlands road on Saturday morning, June 5.

There were significant delays on the A38 southbound - towards Derby - following the incident which took place between the A610 Junction for Ripley and the Junction for Coxbench.

The accident happened just before 8am and at one stage caused delays of around 40 minutes, Derbyshire Live reports.

Initially one lane was closed before traffic officers then fully closed the southbound section between the two junctions "to aid clean-up".

Details of the vehicle involved are not known at this stage.

A spokesperson for Highways England said: "Fortunately no-one was hurt as a result of this incident although, sadly, the cow did not survive the collision which contributed to the delay in opening the road."

The road fully reopened at around 11am - more than three hours after the crash.
