Drivers on the M6 would have experienced some slow mooooving traffic last night (sorry), after a young cow had to be rescued by traffic police when it wandered on to the motorway.

The cow was first spotted by drivers late Tuesday night on the M6 at Doxey in Staffordshire.

It was able to escape after “idiots forced and left a farmer’s gate open”.

Officers with the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG), Highways England workers and a group of local farmers helped rescue the cow.

In order to safely rescue the animal, they were forced to shut off the carriageway momentarily.

The cow was then “corralled” by the CMPG team and the farmers behind a safety fence and afterwards they ensured “she was safely walked off the network and back home after an exciting night out”.

CMPG tweeted: “Many thanks to the drivers held up as we shut the carriageway [sic] your patience as we deal with these and other incidents is greatly appreciated.”
