'Covidiots' trends on Twitter as VE day crowds form on streets despite coronavirus lockdown

The term 'Covidiots' began trending on Twitter last night after pictures emerged of people across the UK gathering to celebrate VE day.

Victory in Europe celebrations mark the day World War Two ended in 1945.

Despite advice from the UK Government to stay to at least two metres apart from others at all times to prevent the spread of coronavirus, pictures emerged of people celebrating the day in large crowds.

One video even appeared to show a large conga line forming on the street.

The news comes as Edinburgh locals were slammed for forming large crowds and socialising on Portobello Beach during the lockdown.

In Lancashire, people were labelled 'Covidiots' after pictures emerged of people huddling together on the street to pose for a VE day picture.

Meanwhile, in Warrington, a video emerged of families celebrating the day by joining together to form a conga line in the sunshine.

A medley of images shared by another angry Twitter user showed crowds across the UK forming and a street party in Cosham.

Edinburgh locals were also branded 'idiots' after they gathered within close vicinity at Portobello beach over the weekend.
