Covidiots fined as cops break up game of football in Edinburgh park

Two men have been fined under coronavirus laws after cops broke up a game of football in Edinburgh.

Officers were alerted to what was reportedly an 11-a-side kickabout at Inverleith Park earlier today.

The game broke strict lockdown regulations put in place to stop the spread of the killer bug .

Cops said that when they arrived at the scene most of the group scattered.

But two men were handed fines by police.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 1.05pm on Sunday, 21 February, officers were called to a report of a football game taking place in Inverleith Park.

"Most of the group left on police arrival, however two men were issued with Fixed Penalty Notices."

Cops across Scotland have issued thousands of fines for breaching lockdown rules since the start of the pandemic last March.

In January police chiefs vowed to step up patrols to catch people breaking the rules on meetings.
