Covidiots fined after police break up 'all night lock-in party' at Scots boozer

A group of covidiots have been fined after police broke up an 'all night lock-in party' at a Scots pub.

Cops were sent to The Stewart Inn in Stepps following reports of a gathering inside the popular boozer.

Upon arrival at around 5.30pm on New Year's Day officers found "a number of people" in breach of coronavirus regulations.

One local told the Record that the group had been partying there since Hogmanay.

Cops dispersed the crowd and handed out 13 Fixed Penalty Notices.

A local told the Record: "The Stewart Inn had a lock-in party for New Year.

"There were about 20 people in for Hogmanay and the police arrived at 5.30pm on New Year's Day.

"They all got fined £30 for breaking lockdown rules but we think that's a sham.

"They'd already partied right through the night. It's a disgrace, acting like that in the middle of a global pandemic."

The breach of coronavirus rules came just days before the country entered its second national lockdown.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the report of a number of people breaching Covid regulations at The Stewart Inn, Cardowan Road in Stepps at around 5.26pm on Friday, January 1, 2021.

"Officers attended and spoke with those present including the licence holder for the premises.

"The group were dispersed and 13 Fixed Penalty Notices related to the gathering were issued."

The Record have approached the The Stewart Inn for a comment.
