Covidiot Scots driver fined after plunging her car into River Nevis

A woman has been fined for breaching coronavirus regulations after a car plunged into a river at a Scots beauty spot.

Emergency crews were alerted to the smash in the River Nevis, near Ben Nevis, at around 8.35am on Sunday morning.

Pictures show a red car partially submerged in the water as specialist crews work to recover the vehicle from the Highland river.

The car was unoccupied at the time of the incident and no one was injured.

Police confirmed that a 37-year-old woman was handed a fine for breach of the coronavirus legislation.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We were made aware of a car entering the River Nevis in Glen Nevis shortly after 8.35am on Sunday, January 17.

“The car was unoccupied at the time and no one was injured. The car has since been recovered from the river.

“A 37-year-old woman was issued with a fixed penalty notice in connection with a breach of coronavirus regulations.”
