Covid vaccine options for those aged 35 or younger as Taoiseach hails huge milestone

The national vaccine portal has opened today for people aged 33 who want to get a Covid-19 vaccine.

It comes as Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said two million people in Ireland are now fully vaccinated.

In a Twitter post this morning, he said 70% of the adult population have now received at least one dose of a Covid-19 jab.

Mr Martin has praised the "brilliant effort by all the HSE staff and volunteers" involved in the rollout of the vaccination programme.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly hailed "another great milestone in our Covid-19 vaccination programme" and urged people to get their second vaccine dose "for the best possible protection" against Covid-19.

Around 750 pharmacies across the country are also continuing to vaccinate 18-34 year olds with the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The vaccine portal for people aged 32 will open tomorrow, 31 year olds can register for an appointment online on Saturday and 30 year olds can sign up on Sunday.

These vaccines will mostly be Pfizer or Moderna jabs.

Separately, from Monday, July 12, there will be a two track approach to the vaccine rollout going forward.

Young people aged 18-34 can also register for an AstraZeneca vaccine if they choose to opt-in online through the portal.

The option to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine is being made available to this age cohort for those who want to get inoculated earlier.

Appointments to receive these jabs are expected to be sent out in two to three weeks.

People in that same age cohort can also wait to receive a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and the timeline for this is expected to be in August.

To register online for a vaccine on the portal for an mRNA vaccine, you will need a mobile phone number, an email address, your PPS number and your Eircode.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said anyone aged over 60 that is waiting for their second vaccine dose should receive it by July 19.
