COVID vaccine latest as major plans underway to ferry people to centres with express buses

Ministers are planning to put on special extra buses to ferry people to get their Covid jabs.

The discussion about this took place at Cabinet as plans are laid for increasing vaccine delivery in the coming weeks, with hopes of getting the promised 250,000 a week done soon.

The vaccine express buses will be over and above normal services and it is anticipated they will be run by Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann and will be targeted to bring people direct to mass vaccination centres.

The Cabinet also agreed to approve the appointment of five new High Court judges to deal with the courts backlog caused by Covid.

A spokesman for the Government was unable to say last night whether these appointments will be temporary or permanent.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that more vaccinators will be recruited for the mass vaccination centres which will operate seven days a week as vaccine supply increases.

They will include radiographers, dental hygienists, vets and healthcare students.
