COVID updates: All the coronavirus news from around Australia

Here's a quick wrap of what's happening in COVID-19 news across Australia.

New South Wales

Another four deaths were recorded overnight. 

There are 991 COVID cases in hospital, 39 of those in intensive care. 

There were 16,288 new cases reported in the 24 hours to 4pm yesterday. 

The ACT

Canberra has reported 821 new COVID-19 cases, taking the number of known active cases in the territory to 3,771.

There are 37 people in hospital, with two requiring intensive care treatment. One person is on a ventilator.

Victoria

Victoria recorded another eight COVID deaths. 

There are 188 cases in hospital, with 32 of those in intensive care. 

Currently, three COVID patients require a ventilator. 

There were 7,779 new cases.

Tasmania

Another person has been admitted to intensive care with COVID-19, bringing the state's total number of cases in ICU to five.

There are 16 people with COVID-19 in hospital but only eight are being treated specifically for their COVID-19 symptoms.

Tasmania has recorded 1,167 new cases overall and known active cases in the state have risen to 5,975, but the numbers are still below the January peak.

Queensland

Five people in Queensland have died with COVID-19 in the latest reporting period.

There are 252 people in hospital with the virus, 17 of them in ICU.

The state has recorded 4,571 new cases, with more than half of those identified via self-reported rapid antigen tests.

Western Australia

WA has recorded 4,535 new cases of COVID-19 and is now dealing with a total of 18,012 active cases.

There are 80 people in hospital with the virus, three in ICU.

Of the positive cases 2,440 were detected with PCR testing and 2,095 were the result of self-reported positive Rapid Antigen Tests.

There were 18,430 PRC tests conducted in total yesterday.

South Australia

Four people with COVID-19 have died in South Australia. They were a man and woman both aged in their 50s, a woman in her 70s and a man in his 80s.

The state has recorded 2,590 new cases and there are now 21,514 active cases.

There are 91 people in hospital, 11 in intensive care.

Northern Territory

A man in his 60s with COVID-19 has died. He was from a remote community in the Big Rivers region, had underlying health conditions, and passed away at Royal Darwin Hospital.

The total number of COVID-19 related deaths recorded in the NT since the start of the pandemic remains at 30.

There were 326 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the NT in the past 24 hours. There are 2,356 active cases overall.

There are 33 patients in hospital, with five patients requiring oxygen. Two patients are in intensive care.
