The UK recorded a further 98,515 Covid cases and 143 deaths on Monday, according to the latest figures.
It marks the first time the daily figures have been published in two days, with data on the government’s Covid dashboard not updated since Christmas Eve.
The figure is lower than the 122,186 cases reported on Friday – the highest daily tally of infections so far in the pandemic.
However, the total does not include the latest figures from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, who will publish their figures from the festive period later this week.
Monday’s data also includes the figures for England over the holiday period, with 113,628 cases reported on December 25.
And a further 103,558 infections were recorded on December 26 in England. It brings the total number of infections to 12,209,991.
It means that a total 321,036 people have tested positive for the virus in the past three days.
The number of fatalities on December 25 and 26 is not shown in the latest data, with the total in the UK currently standing at 148,003.
Meanwhile, Boris Johnson is not expected to announce further restrictions for England after being briefed on the impact Christmas had on Covid infections and hospital pressures.
The Government, according to reports, may choose to issue new voluntary guidance on limiting contacts rather than risk another damaging Tory rebellion by recalling Parliament to impose new rules beyond the existing Plan B measures.
Separate figures showed a further 12,000 people were vaccinated against Covid on Christmas Day.
NHS staff reported that there were hundreds of thousands of “jingle jab” vaccinations over Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, including more than 10,000 top-up doses.
On Boxing Day, 24,078 jabs were delivered, including 20,278 top-ups. Taken with new figures from Christmas Eve, this means that 214,000 doses in total were delivered including 184,445 boosters.
Health and Social Care Secretary, Sajid Javid, said: “It’s thanks to our life-saving vaccines, treatments and testing that we’ve been able to see loved ones over the Christmas weekend.
“The enthusiasm the country has shown for our Covid vaccines has been tremendous, particularly the 214,000 who have gone out of their way this holiday weekend to get their jab and secure protection from the Omicron variant.
“I want to say a big thank you to all the NHS staff and volunteers who worked over the weekend to get jabs in arms. If you’re yet to get your booster, do not delay – get boosted now.”
