Covid travel rules: How to get your day two test as Scottish Government confirms change

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed yesterday that Covid travel rules are changing in Scotland.

For 'practical reason', the Scottish Government are following in England's footsteps will now allow cheaper tests to be used for people flying into Scotland.

Currently in Scotland, PCR tests are only accepted, either from the Scottish government's approved website or private ones from England.

However, this is set to change, making travelling cheaper and easier for those who are fully vaccinated and returning from non-red list countries only.

Speaking to MSPs, Sturgeon added: "I am sure that this change will be welcomed by many travelers, and by the travel industry"

Westminster announced on November 15 that they will be allowing travellers arriving in England to take a lateral flow test, as long as it meets the testing standards, as their day two test.

This is an alternative to a PCR which can set visitors and holidaymakers back anything between £60-100.

And from Sunday October 31 at 4am, the same will apply to Scotland.

How to book your lateral flow day two test

People flying into Scotland will be able to book lateral flow tests from the list of private providers on the gov.uk site here from around 5pm on Friday.

But these tests must be booked in advance of their arrival into Scotland.

How much are Covid day two tests?

The lateral flow tests will cost between £20-£30.

The PCR tests from the Scottish government approved websites cost £68 for an NHS COVID-19 PCR.

So the lateral flow tests are considerably cheaper, especially if a family is travelling.

What happens if you test positive for Covid-19?

If your lateral flow test proves positive, you must get a PCR test to confirm the result.

While waiting for the result you must also isolate, even if you are double jabbed.

Travel rules for those not fully vaccinated

Those who have not had two double doses of the Covid vaccine, the rules are stricter.

Those returning or visiting Scotland from a non-red list country, must isolate at home or in the place you are staying for 10 days (self-isolation).

They must also take a COVID-19 PCR test - on or before day 2 and on or after day 8 of your 10 day isolation.
