Covid: Three more deaths confirmed in Bristol as case numbers soar

Three people have died with coronavirus in the Bristol region in the last 24 hours, the latest data shows.

Two people have died in North Somerset and one has person died in the city of Bristol area as the most recent Government figures show another spike for the region.

It comes as South Gloucestershire is continuing to record one of the highest Covid rates in the South West.

Bristol saw the most new cases in the last 24 hours with 280, bringing the total number of cases there to 73,866.

It's followed by South Gloucestershire with 194 and North Somerset with 101.

Three new coronavirus deaths brings the total number of fatalities in the Bristol region to 1,317.

Meanwhile South Gloucestershire is continuing to record one of the highest Covid rates in the South West, with 522.6 cases per 100,000 people.

That's compared to the UK rate of 403.1, which has also been increasing this week.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol, with the daily rise in brackets:

  • Bristol - 73,866 (+280)

  • North Somerset - 27,400 (+101)

  • South Gloucestershire - 41,019 (+194)

The total number of deaths recorded in each region:

  • Bristol - 574 (+1)

  • North Somerset - 354 (+2)

  • South Gloucestershire - 389 (-)
