Covid Scotland update: Highest daily deaths since May as 1,261 new cases confirmed

Nicola Sturgeon has reported a further 1261 coronavirus cases in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

Speaking at today's daily coronavirus briefing, the First Minister said the cases represent a total of 6.5 per cent of those tested for the virus on Tuesday.

Out of the new cases Nicola Sturgeon stated that 145 were in the Lothians health board, with a further 488 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

There were also 272 in Lanarkshire, and 80 in Ayrshire and Arran, the remaining cases were divided among eight other Scottish health boards.

The First Minister also announced that 64 more people in Scotland had died after contracting coronavirus, which is the highest daily total since.

There are currently 1,235 people being treated for the virus in hospitals across the country, which is a drop of four from yesterday.

There are also 95 patients in intensive care units, a decrease of nine from yesterday.

It comes as Nicola Sturgeon confirmed on Tuesday that Edinburgh and the Lothians were to remain under strict level three restrictions.
