Covid Scotland update as 908 new cases confirmed in Scotland overnight

A total of 908 new coronavirus cases have been identified in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

Figures published this afternoon (Saturday) show that the 908 new cases represent 4.9 per cent of those tested for the virus on Friday.

The report comes just days before tighter quarantine restrictions are introduced in Scotland, with anyone entering from outside the UK required to do a ten-day hotel stay.

This will be paid for by the traveller themselves, with those who are caught breaking the rules faced with up to 10 years in prison or a £10,000 fine.

Out of the new cases, 103 are in NHS Lothian, with a further 235 cases in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

In the latest vaccination news 1,173,445 have now received their first dose, with a further 14,009 now also received their second dose.

Hospital figures have shown that 1,449 people are currently receiving treatment for Covid-19 across Scotland, with another 110 patients in intensive care.

45 deaths were also registered in the last 24 hours.

However, death numbers at the weekends can be artificially low at the weekends due to registry offices being closed.

Tomorrow, the First Minister will update the figures again at the daly briefing, before making a lockdown review announcement on Tuesday (February 16).
