Covid Scotland update: 31 deaths reported overnight as well as 1,001 new cases

A total of 1,001 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

This figure represents a total of 4.6 per cent of those tested for the virus on Thursday.

Although "the highest figure for a little while", Nicola Sturgeon urged that the test positivity rate is below five per cent which is "encouraging".

The First Minister was joined by Chief Constable Iain Livingstone at the daily briefing, where she stated that a total of 104,306 cases of Covid-19 have occurred in Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

Out of the cases reported today, 196 were in the Lothians, with a further 246 in Glasgow.

125 were in Lanarkshire, with 117 in Ayrshire and Arran and 111 in Grampian.
