Covid Scotland: Two Edinburgh neighbourhoods are the last remaining hotspots in the city

As coronavirus cases continue to drop across Edinburgh and Scotland, there are still two areas within the city that are seeing higher transmission rates than most.

On Tuesday (April 6), just 44 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded across the entire NHS Lothian region, showing a huge decline from the January peak.

However, there are still two local areas within the capital that are showing higher case numbers, according to the latest data from Public Health Scotland.

Both Granton West and Salvesen, and Colinton and Kingsknowe have been recorded as having 200-399 cases per 100,000 of population, the second highest category on the chart.

In a seven day period, Granton West had 11 new cases, while Colinton reported 12. Although the numbers appear low, almost every other area in the city is reporting no new cases at all.

There are still a few areas in the 100-199 cases category, however their case numbers are also low. These are:

Leith (Hermitage and Prospect Bank)

Muirhouse

Granton South and Wardieburn

Great Junction Street

Moredun and Craigour

Queensferry East

Mountcastle

Restalrig and Lochend

Carrick Knowe

Niddrie

Gracemount, Southhouse and Burdiehouse

It comes as the First Minister announced yesterday that all school pupils will be able to return on a full-time basis from after the Easter break.

Due to the death and case rate continuing to drop and plateau, Nicola Sturgeon stated that there is "a lot to be optimistic about" as the country heads towards a move to level three at the end of the month.
