Covid Scotland: Two deaths recorded in past 24 hours as cases rise by 210

Two more people with a positive Covid-19 test have passed away in the past 24 hours, bringing the country's death toll under this measurement to 7,642.

The latest figures released by the Scottish Government also confirms that 210 positive cases were recorded overnight, making up 1.2% of all tests, and bringing the total figure to 223,471.

Of these, 54 were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, while 49 were in Lanarkshire.

2,733,387 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 715,714 have received their second dose.

It comes as covid lockdown rules continue to ease across the country, with Scots now freely able to travel across the country for 'outdoor socialising, recreation and exercise'.

Nicola Sturgeon outlined a series of key lockdown easing moves during a covid announcement earlier this week, setting out a timeline for the current restrictions to be lifted across Scotland in the coming weeks and months.

As part of an 'acceleration' of the easing plan, The First Minister confirmed that the loosening of some restrictions, including a relaxation of the travel ban and an increase to the number of people allowed to meet outdoors, was brought forawrd as data shows Scotland's good progress on both vaccination levels and on suppression of the virus.
