Covid Scotland: The latest PCR test costs in Glasgow for those travelling abroad

By Alexander Smail

Covid has made planning holidays a more long-winded affair but it's crucial to be aware of the facts before leaving the country for a bit of sun.

Getting tested before leaving and after arriving home is now a crucial part of any holiday plans, but the specifics will depend highly on where it is you are travelling to.

While some countries may accept a negative lateral flow result, most will require proof of a PCR test before you are allowed in.

It is also important to note that while testing remains free for those with symptoms of Covid-19, people looking to travel must be paid for - which can add significant costs to the price of a holiday.

Those returning to Scotland from green list countries must take a PCR test 2 days after arriving back in the country, and it is recommended that these are ordered through the government's CTM booking portal.

People who are fully vaccinated no longer need to isolate for 10 days after returning from an amber list country, but again a PCR test must be taken 2 days after returning.

Those who have not been fully vaccinated must take PCR tests both 2 days and 8 days after returning to Scotland from an amber list country.

Here are the latest costs of tests in Glasgow, correct at the time of writing.

Glasgow Airport

Glasgow Airport is offering a range of testing options for those needing a Covid-19 test before they can fly out of the country.

Rapid antigen - also known as lateral flow - tests can be carried out at the airport's COVID Testing Centre in Terminal 2 for the price of £55 and the results are sent by email usually within 12-15 minutes.

PCR tests are also available, both as a walk-up test and as a Park and Test.

The prices for both of these services are the same, costing £80 for those needing their results back within 24 hours and £150 for those needing their results within 12 hours.

The airport is also offering PCR postal tests which are carried out at home for those who do not need a result quite as quickly.

These postal tests cost £100 and the entire process takes approximately 96 hours.

More information is available from the Glasgow Airport website.
