Six people have died at a Scottish care home after a coronavirus cluster was identified by health chiefs.
The tragic deaths are linked to an outbreak at Craigie House Care Home in Crossgates, Fife, reports our sister title the Daily Record.
39 people linked to the care facility have now tested positive for the deadly virus in recent weeks.
NHS Fife’s Health Protection Team said it was working closely with the Fife Health and Social Care partnership as well as home bosses to stop the virus spreading.
The news comes after the Scottish Government announced it would start offering coronavirus tests to care home visitors from tomorrow, including some in Fife.
In a statement to the newspaper, the health board said: “NHS Fife is issuing an update following a cluster of confirmed COVID-19 cases associated with Craigie House Care Home in Crossgates.
“A further 2 people associated with Craigie House Care Home have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 39.
“Sadly, 6 people linked to the cluster have died after contracting the virus.
“NHS Fife’s Health Protection Team and the Fife Health and Social Care Partnership continue to work alongside Fife Council’s Environmental Health Service to support to the management of the care home and offer advice to reduce further transmission of the virus.
“Anyone experiencing the well-established symptoms of COVID-19 should immediately self-isolate and arrange a test using the NHS inform website www.nhsinform.scot or by calling 0800 028 2816.
