Covid Scotland: Popular Edinburgh city centre family restaurant closes for Christmas

A family-run restaurant with locally-sourced cuisine closes its doors for what was supposed to be the busiest time of the year following the announcement of the new Covid restrictions.

Timberyard, a Modern British restaurant on Lady Lawson St, took to Instagram to make the sad announcement. The post reads: "We have made the difficult decision to close the restaurant doors until the New Year, reopening on Saturday, January 1."

It isn't the first time the place has been forced to close. After a year of struggles and closed doors in 2020, Timberyard only returned to its usual working capacity on April 29 2021.

The news comes during a wave of cancellations and hospitality venues closures - as the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon urged Scots to limit their contacts and stay home whenever possible during the festive season on Tuesday last week (December 14).

Timberyard is a popular dining destination with the rustic charm of its 19th-century ex-warehouse building adding to its attractiveness. In the post, the venue thanked people for their support and said: "Wishing you all a very happy Christmas with loved ones, and we look forward to celebrating with you in the new year."

Everyone whose bookings have been affected by the temporary closure of Timberyard will be contacted by email shortly.
