Covid Scotland: Popular Edinburgh bar closes as staff forced into isolation

A popular Edinburgh bar has been forced to shut down for at least the next seven days amid a coronavirus outbreak among staff.

CC Blooms announced they would be closing their doors over the Christmas and Boxing Day period over a lack of staff caused by a flurry of positive tests.

The Greenside Place establishment has become the latest Capital venue to call a temporary halt to its festive celebrations as a result of shortages caused by skyrocketing virus case rates.

The Banshee Labyrinth and eatery Down the Hatch - located just across the road on Antigua Street - had already announced closures as a result of the omicron variant during the Christmas period.

A CC Blooms statement read: "We really didn't expect to he doing this again, but due to staff having to isolate, we are closed today, and the rest of this week

"We will update our socials with reopening details as soon as we have them down.

"Stay safe out there guys! See you soon."

Over 6,200 new cases of covid-19 were confirmed in Scotland on Thursday, 807 of which were in the City of Edinburgh Council area.

The number of Omicron variant cases has risen by 674 in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 2,326 cases.

The latest Scottish Government figures show the daily positivity rate stood at 12.7%, down from 13% on Tuesday.

Officials said that Public Health Scotland (PHS) experienced a technical issue on Wednesday that meant that the new reported positive case number was lower than expected (2,434).

It said this has been resolved and the new cases figure for December 22 should have been 5,967, which has been corrected and the cases included in Thursday's cumulative figures.

So far 4,377,002 people have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccination, 4,003,377 have received their second dose, and 2,782,462 have received a third dose or booster.
