Covid Scotland: Outcry after Edinburgh page encourages people to film hospitals

A Twitter page, registered in Edinburgh, has shared a conspiracy video, telling locals to show up at hospitals and 'expose' them for having no Covid patients.

In the video, a woman shows up at a hospital in Gloucestershire and films the inside, claiming there are no people treated for coronavirus inside.

An Edinburgh based page shared the video, writing: "Friends please go to your local hospital and do this it’s very important we call out these lies. Use the hashtag #PCRWave RETWEET!"

In a separate post the campaign page tagged a law firm and warned: "You may be arrested! If so contact @pcrclaims."

The video was picked up by a separate Twitter called 'UK COVID Anti-Misinformation' who tagged Edinburgh Police in the post, writing: " @EdinburghPolice. @EdinburghPolice This account located in Edinburgh is inciting people to commit a public order offence. Can you take action?"

On Twitter, unimpressed members of the public hit out at the account.

Steve Ruffell wrote: "Hospitals are mainly empty of members of the visiting public at the moment, unless a patient, visiting severely restricted. You won't get anywhere near patients in ICCU / ICU. Hospitals are prioritising specialist units. Many full, many at 75%. Hope you never need one."

Laura Perrins added: "Why are you so selfish? Just wear a mask, don’t work, don’t send your kids to schools, don’t see your friends and family, don’t go anywhere, don’t do anything. What’s the problem?".

Edinburgh Police and the campaign page were contacted for comment.
