Covid Scotland: No new deaths but 1,498 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has announced that there have been zero Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures also reveal that 1,498 new cases of the virus have been recorded, bringing the total in Scotland up to 359,415.

Scotland's death toll - which includes any individual's death recorded within 28 days of them catching the virus - since the pandemic began remains at 8,013.

At the moment, there are 331 Scots being treated in hospital with the virus - with 40 of those in intensive care.

Looking at Scotland's vaccine rollout, 4,054,842 people have had their first dose while 3,449,901 have gotten their second.

The release of the new totals come as 16 and 17-year-olds across the country have been encouraged to get vaccinated before returning to school.

People in this age group are now eligible for the covid jab after being granted permission by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) last week.

The majority of school kids will head back to the classroom early next week after a six-week break from studying.
